Rishikesh isn't hard to reach, but the options differ enough in time and comfort that it's worth planning ahead — especially the last stretch into Tapovan.
By air
Jolly Grant Airport (DED) in Dehradun is the nearest, about 35km (roughly 1 hour) from Rishikesh. It has direct flights from Delhi and a handful of other major cities. A prepaid taxi from the airport is the simplest option.
By train
Haridwar Junction is the better-connected station, roughly 45 minutes from Rishikesh, with frequent trains from Delhi (including overnight options). Rishikesh itself has a smaller station with fewer direct services.
By road
Rishikesh is about 5–6 hours by car from Delhi via NH34, and it's a genuinely scenic drive once you're past Haridwar. Overnight Volvo buses from Delhi's ISBT Kashmere Gate are the budget option, arriving early morning.
Getting to Tapovan specifically
Tapovan sits above the main Laxman Jhula area, a short (10–15 minute) auto or taxi ride from central Rishikesh. If you let us know your arrival details in advance, we can arrange pickup so you're not negotiating an auto fare after a long journey.
Our recommendation
If time matters more than budget: fly into Dehradun. If you'd rather see the country and don't mind a longer journey: the Delhi–Haridwar train followed by a short taxi is comfortable and inexpensive.
